After four years in the San Juan Islands (off Washington State), Seb, Cosmo, and I are headed to the mainland.

To the cute college town of Bellingham. Just minutes from the Canadian, B.C. border.

I know my profile says I found paradise in these not-so-tropical islands, but paradise can become a sort of prison when you are limited to 55 square miles. With the cost, time, and hassle of ferries, plus having a dog, we rarely get off the island.

A foggy morning waiting for the ferry in Friday Harbor.

It's gorgeous here, not doubt about it. More than anything, I will miss renting on four acres and having trees for neighbors. I may even regret moving after we end up in a neighborhood again.

But there are things I really miss - like restaurants, book signings, young people, variety, friends, and day trips.

I spent most of my life in Anchorage, trapped between ocean, mountains... and Canada! I didn't move to the lower 48 to stay stuck on an island of 6,000 people.

Last summer I got my motorcycle license and let me tell you, there are only so many times you can ride around in circles on an island before you get bored. I am looking forward to riding the North Cascades Highway and getting a chance to explore this beautiful state.

We head out mid-February. As in NEXT MONTH!!!

Guess I better pack. And find a rental. And finish editing Stakeout. And Evil Red. And stay on track writing Bad Blood. And entertain visiting family the next two weeks (all of whom have back problems or a broken arm and can't help pack).

No, I'm not freaking out. Not one bit. ;-)

Aurora Returns Spring of 14!

Aurora's been working her booty off at boot camp, but she's returning in time to start her fall semester of college or - in your case, dear reader, returning this Spring to your nearest eReader!

The relationships are much more complex than they've ever been and I think fans of the series are going to be surprised and delighted every step of the way.

While you're waiting, here are a couple of texts between Aurora and Dante. They've been keeping in touch while Aurora's at boot camp.

Beginning of Boot Camp

Dante: Where are you?
Aurora: Classified.
Dante: How about a hint?
Aurora: Can’t.
Dante: You’re killing me, Sky.
Aurora: I’m the one at boot camp.
Dante: Try celibacy.
Aurora: Striking out with all the ladies?
Dante: Waiting for you.
Aurora: You think that’s going to help you score or something?
Dante: I’m counting on it.
Aurora: Don’t hold your breath.
End of Boot Camp
Dante: You up?
Aurora: Yes.
Dante: I could really use a hand with something.
Aurora: You’re sick.
Dante: Trouble sleeping?
Aurora: Obviously.
Dante: Thinking about me?
Aurora: Goodnight, Dante.
Dante: Wait.
Aurora: What?
Dante: I miss you.
Aurora: ok
Dante: Really.
Aurora: Well, I’m down to the last week.
Dante: Can’t wait to see your new moves.
Aurora: Try anything funny and I guarantee you will.
Dante: Is that a promise?
Aurora: Signing off!
Dante: Sign off while you can. You’re coming home in another week. See you soon, Sky… real soon.

Evil Red Cover Reveal January 27th

I can't begin to tell you how kickass this cover is. Created by Najla Qamber Designs.

If you're a blogger, you can sign-up for the January 27th Cover Reveal via The Ginger Pimps here.

Since I can't show it off yet, here's a little backstory into the inspiration for the design - a spoof on Evil Dead with a pulp fiction, Quentin Tarantino touch and out comes a cover full of kick assery.

Evil Red (An Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter Novelette)
L.A. is one tough city, especially while sharing a trailer with four thieving sisters.

Valerie’s plans for a better life and Hollywood grandeur are interrupted after a fateful stabbing lands her in Anchorage, Alaska where government agents expect her to play the role of a vampire hunting La Femme Nikita.

The redheaded vixen is back in her own novelette.

Recommended after Northern Bites (Aurora Sky, Vol. 2) or Stakeout (Vol. 2.5). Approximately 20,000 words

Add it at Goodreads.

Releases next month!

New Year’s Resolutions

After Aurora Sky nearly dies and is forced to kill vampires for the government in repayment for her life, she comes up with some sketchy New Year’s Resolutions:

kill first vampire
get drunk
kiss a boy
lose virginity

My own list seems to be on repeat year after year:

Get in shape
Lose weight
Eat healthier
Read and write more books

Get organized

Budget better

I do like to throw in some fun things here and there, like learning to ride a motorcycle last year. Someday I’d love to learn to sail. I’d also like to pick up where I left off with my French and become fluent. Maybe learn some conversational Spanish. I wish I could travel more. That’s more of a fantasy than a resolution or maybe if I budget better… ;-)

What are your resolutions for 2014?
